Trafficking in Human Beings

A draft law against trafficking in human beings has been approved by the Chamber of Deputies on 21 November 2001. The draft law is now being discussed at the Senate; the first session took place on 13 June 2002; the final approval is expected by the end of the year. The main purpose of this new law is to strengthen the legal definition of the crime of human trafficking, to toughen the penalties and dispense specific protection measures for victims of trafficking along with a range of preventive measures.
