Draft Law on 'Non-Custodial Punishments and Probation' Sent to Parliament

Tbilisi. 27 February’07, InterpressNews - The law on 'Rules of Non-custodial Punishment and Probation' drafted in the Ministry of Justice was approved by the Government and is sent to the Parliament for further consideration.

The draft law is aimed to combat shortcomings and develop effective system. The draft law contemplates transformation of the Department of Non-custodial Punishments and Probation of the Ministry of Justice into the National Probation Service, but still under the supervision of the Ministry. Therefore the initiative is to foster level of independence of the entity.

The draft law regulates rights and liabilities of probationers, legal status of personnel of the National Probation Service including social guarantees and legal safeguard measures; and other issues linked to the enforcement of non-custodial punishments as well.
