THE LAW OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA

"ON LEGAL STATUS OF THE PENITENTIARY SERVICE OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA"

Article 1. The sphere of force of this Law

This Law defines the legal status of the Penitentiary Service of the Republic of Armenia and the rank of employees.

Article 2. Legal status of the Penitentiary Service of the Republic of Armenia

The Penitentiary Service of the Republic of Armenia is functioning in the system of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia and it is its structural subdivision.

The Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia includes the Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, places of pre-trial detention and corrective labor institutions.

The Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia is managed by the Head of Penitentiary Department of the Republic of Armenia.

Article 3. Ranks of employees of the Penitentiary Service of the Republic of Armenia.

The following special ranks are defined for the employees of Penitentiary Service of the Republic of Armenia:

• the ordinary ranks, the sergeants’ and the warrant officers’

Ordinary

Lance-corporal

Junior sergeant

Sergeant

Senior Sergeant

Senior

Warrant officer

Senior warrant officer

• Junior officers’

Junior lieutenant of justice

Lieutenant of justice

Senior lieutenant of justice

Captain of justice

• Senior officers’

Major of justice

Lieutenant-colonel of justice

Colonel of justice

• High officers’

General - major of justice

"Dismissed" word is added to the ranks of dismissed persons of Penitentiary Service of the Republic of Armenia.

Article 4. Coming into force of this Law

This Law comes into force from October 1, 2001.
